Scam 2003
About the project
Scam 2003: The Telgi Story (SonyLIV, 2023) follows Abdul Karim Telgi and the stamp-paper counterfeiting scandal worth 30,000 crore, the follow-up to Scam 1992.
The title turns his empire into an endless desert of counterfeit stamp paper fed by colossal printing presses: Telgi rules it from the shadows until ego and a fatal attraction to a bar dancer pull him into the light, the people who once helped him hunt him down, and the paper he printed finally buries him.
Approach
Epic, ironic, doom-laden ยท a forged-paper desert between 2D and 3D, where greed buries the man who built it.
What I did
The idea was Telgi's empire as a desert of counterfeit stamp paper, with giant presses churning out more of it nonstop. I ran the CG on this one: the presses, the paper dunes and the world Telgi rises and sinks in, with Babak Radnia on the character models and animation and Ashish Bisht on the cloth sims. The tricky part was the music. The Scam 1992 theme carried over untouched, so we had to find a brand-new story that still rode a track everyone already knew. The look is an evolution of the first season's title, sitting somewhere between 2D and 3D animation.
